New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Get Your Dream Backyard With These Landscaping Tips For Small Spaces

Landscaping within the limits of a smaller yard can be a challenge, but the results can be great if you set aside the time to pick the right landscaping projects. With the following tips in mind, your yard will look fantastic and you won't be struggling for space.

Decide What Your Priorities Are

With limited square footage in a smaller backyard, it's up to you to decide what your priorities are for the use of the space. A lot of people make the mistake of wanting to tackle too many projects for the space, resulting in the backyard feeling cluttered or cramped. Whether you want a garden or an area to barbeque, it's best to designate the space for a single purpose to maximize the functionality.

Make the Most of the View

If your backyard has a nice view beyond it, you should do your best to design the space around it. If you're stuck with a smaller sized yard, you'll be able to enjoy a much more impressive yard by reducing the amount of obstructions so that the view can be enjoyed from different angles in your yard.

Go Vertical with Landscaping

Even with a smaller yard, you can enjoy lush plants and garden decorations if you choose to look up instead of outwards. Putting in a trellis and hanging wall art suitable for the outdoors can help liven up the space without putting too much details on the ground of the patio space.

Pick Out Smaller Patio Furniture

When you begin to shop for patio furniture, it's important that you don't make the mistake of choosing larger chairs or dining sets. While you may want furniture that can accommodate your guests, too large of pieces can result in the space feeling overcrowded. With smaller furniture suited for compact backyards, the yard will look much larger.

Avoid Plants That Need Too Much Room

Along with choosing to go vertical with landscaping your smaller yard, you should look into picking plants that aren't going to take up too much room width-wise. If you have any shrubs that grow outwards, you'll need to make a habit of trimming so that your smaller patio space doesn't feel encroached upon.

With the numerous projects that can help you maximize space in a smaller yard, you shouldn't have any trouble getting a dream backyard that looks great. By knowing how to best use the limited square footage, you can begin to enjoy your newly landscaped yard right away.

About Me

New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Hi. My name is Martha. My husband Leo and I are empty nesters. The last of our three kids moved out of the home about eight years ago. Since that time, we have talked a great deal about retirement and what we wanted to do with our house. The house is slightly too large for just the two of us, but we already have two grandchildren and from the way our kids talk, we are in for plenty more. We have decided to stay in our home since it has plenty of room for our family to come and stay with us from time to time. The one thing we really wanted to change is the backyard. Leo retired last year, and I’ll be retiring in about six months. We are already talking with the landscape contractor, and I’m excited to share some of our plans with you!
