New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Want A Retaining Wall? Tis For Choosing A Retaining Wall Contractor

Retaining walls play an important part in landscaping projects as they prevent soil erosion as well as provide structural support. It does require experience and skill to build a retaining wall, however. This is why you should hire a retaining wall builder to do this job for you. Keep reading for some tips to ensure you choose the right one so your retaining wall will stand for many years.

Check for Insurance And License

Before you hire a retaining wall contractor, you should ask them if they have the necessary insurance and licenses. The contractor may have a contractor's license in their wallet to immediately show you. Insurance is important as if any accidents happen during the build, you could be held liable in some cases. If the contractor has insurance, this will not happen.

Ask How Much Experience They Have

You want to ensure the contractor you hire has enough experience building retaining walls, as well as the right expertise. When building a retaining wall, it is important that they do not fail. With some walls, anchors have to be used to keep the wall stable. Other walls stand well on their own. A contractor needs to know the different types of retaining walls and much more. Ask the contractor if they have videos or images to show you of the work they have done so you can see the quality of their work.

Know Materials

Retaining walls can be made from a variety of materials, including, wood, stone, brick, and concrete. There are advantages and disadvantages to each material. The contractor you hire should know information about each material and help you choose the one that would work best for your wall. You need to take into consideration your budget, where the retaining wall is located on your property, and the aesthetics. If what you want is out of your range, the contractor should have other options to offer that will fit better with your budget.

Maintenance

It is important that you keep the retaining wall maintained after it is built to keep it in good condition. Ask the retaining wall contractor if they provide any of this maintenance. They may offer to inspect the retaining wall periodically. If not, the contractor can give you information on how to maintain your wall. This includes knowing when it is time to contact a professional for repairs.

Talk with several retaining wall builders and gets quotes from each to determine who you should hire for your job.

About Me

New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Hi. My name is Martha. My husband Leo and I are empty nesters. The last of our three kids moved out of the home about eight years ago. Since that time, we have talked a great deal about retirement and what we wanted to do with our house. The house is slightly too large for just the two of us, but we already have two grandchildren and from the way our kids talk, we are in for plenty more. We have decided to stay in our home since it has plenty of room for our family to come and stay with us from time to time. The one thing we really wanted to change is the backyard. Leo retired last year, and I’ll be retiring in about six months. We are already talking with the landscape contractor, and I’m excited to share some of our plans with you!
