New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

3 Ways You Can Ensure Your Sprinkler System Is Water-Efficient

Many areas are struggling with drought this year. For some areas, this has meant having restrictions placed on water usage. If you are interested in making your yard look great without wasting any water this year, there are specific things you can do to save water and still have an attractive yard. There are three ways you can ensure you're getting the most out of your irrigation system.

Add the Latest Technology to Your Sprinkler System

Even if you had your sprinkler system installed five or ten years ago, you probably need to upgrade your technology. Lawn and garden sensors in the ground are now efficient at determining how well your plants are being watered, and they send reports to your system to ensure that less water is used when your yard has been naturally watered. Adding a computer-monitored control panel to your irrigation system that's connected to sensors in your yard will not only allow you to save water, you'll save a lot of money by watering less.

Repair and Replace Your Sprinkler Heads

Whether you've hit one of your sprinkler heads with your lawn mower or run over one of them with your car, it's critical to replace broken sprinkler heads immediately. This prevents flooding in your yard, but it also ensures that your lawn and plants are receiving the water instead of your driveway or sidewalks. If you have dated sprinkler heads, or several that are broken, you may want to consider a full replacement of your old sprinklers with water-saving ones. Sprinklers designed to save water have sensors to monitor flow, and they usually have more direct flow to water a specific area more quickly.

Water Early or Late in the Day

People who water their lawns in the middle of summer during the middle of the day are wasting a lot of water. In some areas that have droughts, this can get you into trouble. To get the most out of your watering, it's best to water in the early morning or late evening because it's cooler. The water won't evaporate in the sun, and more moisture will reach the plant life in your yard.

It may require a small investment to have your irrigation system upgraded by a company like Oasis Landscape & Irrigation, but you'll save money in the long run. You'll also be able to efficiently water your property and have everything monitored by a computer system. Being smart about the times you water will also go a long way in helping you get the best results from your watering.

About Me

New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Hi. My name is Martha. My husband Leo and I are empty nesters. The last of our three kids moved out of the home about eight years ago. Since that time, we have talked a great deal about retirement and what we wanted to do with our house. The house is slightly too large for just the two of us, but we already have two grandchildren and from the way our kids talk, we are in for plenty more. We have decided to stay in our home since it has plenty of room for our family to come and stay with us from time to time. The one thing we really wanted to change is the backyard. Leo retired last year, and I’ll be retiring in about six months. We are already talking with the landscape contractor, and I’m excited to share some of our plans with you!
