New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Lawn Maintenance Tips For Yard Of All Sizes

Is your yard big, small, or somewhere in between? No matter your yard's size, the following maintenance tips can help you keep it looking great, month after month.

Mow at least twice a week.

Many people think of lawn mowing as a once-a-week chore, but when grass is experiencing its peak growth in the spring, you may be removing too much grass at once if you only mow once a week. Switch to mowing more frequently, such as twice a week, and you'll notice your lawn grows a bit more dense and full.

Raise your mower blades a little.

Since you're now mowing more often, you don't need to cut the grass as short. Raise your mower blades a setting or two. Your lawn will be a bit lusher, and you'll enjoy walking through it barefoot again since it's so soft.

Mow when the grass is dry.

If it's rainy or damp out, it is best to just put off mowing for a day or two. If you mow when the grass is wet, you will leave depressions in the soil, and then you'll have a hard time getting the lawn even again without having it rolled.

Rake leaves more often in the fall.

When fall arrives and the leaves start falling from the trees, don't wait all season to rake them. As the leaves sit on the grass, they keep the grass from taking in any sunlight. Fall is a season when your grass really needs the sun! Rake your leaves up once a week, or even more often if you have time. Your grass will thank you for this.

Water really early or really late.

When you water your lawn, either do it first thing in the morning or late at night. You don't want to water when the sun is directly overhead. Direct sunlight can cause the water to evaporate from the grass blades, which will scorch them.

Put down a grub preventative each fall.

Every fall, just as the weather is cooling off, scatter a grub preventative treatment over your lawn. Grubs are really common, and once they invade your lawn and start eating your grassroots, they are really hard to get rid of. Spending a little on preventative treatment each year will save you a lot of time and money.

Whether you live on half an acre or five acres, you can keep your lawn a lot healthier with the tips above. Contact a lawn maintenance service for more information.

About Me

New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Hi. My name is Martha. My husband Leo and I are empty nesters. The last of our three kids moved out of the home about eight years ago. Since that time, we have talked a great deal about retirement and what we wanted to do with our house. The house is slightly too large for just the two of us, but we already have two grandchildren and from the way our kids talk, we are in for plenty more. We have decided to stay in our home since it has plenty of room for our family to come and stay with us from time to time. The one thing we really wanted to change is the backyard. Leo retired last year, and I’ll be retiring in about six months. We are already talking with the landscape contractor, and I’m excited to share some of our plans with you!
