New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Benefits of Adding Retaining Walls to Your Landscaping

Retaining walls have been an essential feature in landscaping for centuries. They are structures that are designed to hold back soil, rocks, and other debris. While their primary purpose is to prevent soil erosion and landslides, they can also create beautiful terraced levels that can add to the aesthetics of your landscape. Retaining walls has other benefits that you may have never even considered. Here are some of the benefits of adding retaining walls to your landscaping and how they can improve your property.

Improved Drainage

Retaining walls can help improve drainage in your yard. They can direct rainwater away from your home's foundation, which can help prevent water damage. When the walls are installed correctly, they can redirect water away from pool areas, patios, and other places where water tends to pool up. Poor drainage can lead to soil erosion, a prime reason for washed-out lawns. When water passes into wet soil, it can cause soil to collapse, and this can lead to instability in the terrain.

Increased Property Value

Retaining walls can add a great deal of value to your property. The value increases depending on the size and quality of the walls you install. Using retaining walls for landscaping can enhance the curb appeal of your home and increase its desirability among potential buyers, should you ever decide to sell. Retaining walls can give your property a unique and elegant appearance, which will differentiate it from other homes in the neighborhood.

Erosion Control

As mentioned earlier, retaining walls are created to hold back soil. This control is important because erosion over time can lead to the loss of soil nutrients that plants need to grow. When you have retaining walls installed, it helps prevent soil erosion, preserving fertile soil layers that can have valuable nutrients for your plants to grow. This can also help protect nearby water bodies from mud, sediment, and other pollutants that can trickle down from your yard.

Adding a retaining wall to your landscape can provide many benefits, and they can be a great investment for your property. They can help improve drainage, prevent erosion, and increase property value. When you finally decide to install a retaining wall, hire a professional to assist you, as this will ensure that your retaining wall is correctly installed and can serve you for years.

About Me

New Landscape Makes a Yard Feel New Again

Hi. My name is Martha. My husband Leo and I are empty nesters. The last of our three kids moved out of the home about eight years ago. Since that time, we have talked a great deal about retirement and what we wanted to do with our house. The house is slightly too large for just the two of us, but we already have two grandchildren and from the way our kids talk, we are in for plenty more. We have decided to stay in our home since it has plenty of room for our family to come and stay with us from time to time. The one thing we really wanted to change is the backyard. Leo retired last year, and I’ll be retiring in about six months. We are already talking with the landscape contractor, and I’m excited to share some of our plans with you!
